Phonics Lesson 21

Learning objective: 

To read/write grapheme/phoneme /l/ and segment and blend cvc words


Revisit/review: 

Go through all the sounds learnt so far with the flash cards - s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, ck, ck, e, u, r, h, f,ff

Play the 'The one minute game' using one or two of the sounds learnt so far. How many times can they write the sound in one minute? Set a timer and give them whiteboards and pens. Letters MUST be formed correctly otherwise you will rub them out.



Teach: 

Teach /l/ using objects beginning with /l/

Use the Jolly phonics action. Pretend to lick a lollipop and say l l l l l l.
   
All the children to do the action and say the sound. Make sure each child is saying the sound correctly.


Skywrite the letter /l
/ You could also get children to sit in a circle and write the sound on each other's back so they can really feel it.

Practise:

Phoneme frames - Each child draws two lines down their whiteboard to make a 3 box phoneme frame. Read the words and the child must put one sound in each box as they spell them.

  7. lock
  8. lick

Apply:

Draw the picture

A leg on a lad.


Write the sentence on a sentence strip and ask the children to read it. Can they draw the picture. Don't help and ask the children to blend the words silently so that no one else can hear what they are saying.


Send Home:

A list of words to practice with a parent. The aim being fast blending to automacy.
