Phonics Lesson 22

Learning objective: 

To read/write grapheme/phoneme /ll/ and segment and blend cvc words

Revisit/review: 

Go through all the sounds learnt so far with the flash cards - s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, ck, ck, e, u, r, h, f,ff, l

Play the 'bang' game. Each child picks a card and reads the word. If correct they keep it. Go around the children continuing to pick cards until someone gets a 'bang' card. They must put all their cards back. The first person to get 5 cards is the winner.


Teach: 

Show children the flashcard of /ll/
Read the following words, listening to where the sound is in the word.

bell
tell
sell
dull
full
pull
gull

Use the Jolly phonics action. Pretend to lick a lollipop and say l l l l l l.
   
All the children to do the action and say the sound. Make sure each child is saying the sound correctly.


Skywrite the letter /ll
/ You could also get children to sit in a circle and write the sound on each other's back so they can really feel it.

Practise:

Play 4 in a row with this sheet. Children to play with a partner to practice reading words with /ll/

Apply:

Read the following sentence together modelling how to sound out each word and then read it fluently. 

A kid is ill in bed.

Give each child a sentence to read independently.

A bell on a cat.
The kid ran up a hill.
A kid is in bed ill.
A man is on top of a hill.


Send Home:

A list of words to practice with a parent. The aim being fast blending to automacy.
